Summary/Abstract: The United Kingdom is the first member state to leave the European Union. Bearing in mind that something like this has never happened, the whole process represents a big unknown, both for the United Kingdom and for the EU itself. The outcome of the exit process will determine mutual relations, and the very act of the UK's exit from the EU will significantly affect the future appearance of the EU itself, and thus of the continent in the coming decades, with the EU having a better initial negotiating position.
