Summary/Abstract: The development of European integration, as the first peacetime endeavor to unify the continent, represents a unique case in history. Applying completely new solutions in interstate cooperation, the EU achieved great results and over the decades ensured peace, stability and prosperity of the greater part of Europe. The anniversary of the Treaties of Rome is marked in the conditions of a complex multi-crisis and the expectation of the start of negotiations on the exit of Great Britain from the Union. In the choice between several scenarios of further development, it can be expected that the EU will become a more flexible integration that will have "multiple speeds" or concentric circles.
