Summary/Abstract: The importance of the process of European integration, both from the perspective of the modernization of the state and the stability of the Western Balkan region, as well as the importance of the recently initialed Stabilization and Association Agreement, the first formal confirmation of relations between Serbia and the EU, does not need to be emphasized. Equally significant are the upcoming preparations for the candidacy for EU membership, as well as the process of negotiations on the way to the EU. However, the signals about Serbia's readiness to fulfill its obligations and about the reached political consensus on the direction of the country towards the EU are still weak, and the consequence of this is that Serbia is clearly lagging behind in the process of European integration.
