The development of the stock market in the service of introducing order into the public sector and improving public finances

Summary/Abstract: During the transition, the domestic capital market found itself on the margins of the interest of the creators of local economic policy, and after ten years of restrained development, it did not move too far from the very beginning. Although the Belgrade Stock Exchange had its moments and bright moments during this short transitional history, it did not significantly support the development of the economy. The small contribution of the stock market was hampered by numerous anomalies that largely stemmed from the undeniable fact that there was not much political will for the development of this segment of the financial system, which cannot lack orderliness and transparency.
