Summary/Abstract: The European Parliament (EP) elections were held between May 22 and 25, 2014. This is the eighth EP election since 1979 and the first in which the Republic of Croatia is participating. Unlike the previous convocation of the EP, which immediately before the elections had 766 deputies, the new convocation has 751 deputies who will represent the 503.7 million inhabitants of the European Union in the next mandate. The turnout was 43.09% of the total number of voters at the EU level, which is slightly higher than in the previous EP elections, when the turnout was 43%. The European People's Party won the most votes with 221 mandates, while the second was the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats with 190 mandates. To form a majority, 376 seats in the EP are needed, and no political group came close to that number.
