Summary/Abstract: On April 2, 2025, the United States of America announced the imposition of “reciprocity” tariffs on imports from 57 countries and economic blocs. The decision was announced by President Donald Trump, who declared this day “America’s Liberation Day”, justifying the measure by the need to restore the trade balance in favor of the US. The measure, which will enter into force on April 9, was not subject to multilateral consultations and generated a shock wave in international trade, amplifying fears of a large-scale trade war. In fact, the Republic of Moldova is on the list of countries subject to these tariffs, with a level of 31%, applied uniformly to all products exported to the US. This decision has the potential to negatively affect Moldovan exports, at a time when the national economy is technically in recession. We have set out to answer the main clarifying questions on the subject.
