Summary/Abstract: The basic task of the school, but also of society, is to prepare the youngest population for life in a society of diversity. In order for societies, but also the school itself, to fulfill the task, to actively contribute to the construction of a whole series of competencies necessary for life in a multicultural society, it is necessary to train young people to overcome conflicts, develop tolerance, accept others and differences, but also to show a willingness to reconsider their own attitudes. Intercultural upbringing and education is an important factor of coexistence in a multicultural society, and it starts from the reality that educational institutions are a place of different cultures, languages, and religions. These differences often present challenges for the individual and society, and in order to adequately address them, a quality education system is necessary. That is why there is a need for constant adjustment of education to the democratic standards of the European cultural-plural society, and the idea of interculturalism in the educational system is seen by many as a possible way to quality coexistence in a multicultural society.
