Summary/Abstract: The presence and acceptance of women entered the big door of the security sector of Bosnia and Herzegovina after 2000. Until 2010, when the decade of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 was proudly celebrated, the statistics were promising, with a continuous increase in the number of female police officers from year to year. Last year, the 20th anniversary of the same Resolution was celebrated, on which occasion there was visible stagnation in statistics on the one hand and, on the other hand, the strengthening of the position of female police officers in the security sector. This article presents a brief review of international documents that influenced the introduction of gender roles in the security sector and the protection of women from violence, both in the social and private spheres of life. The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, UN Security Council Resolution 1325, as the basis of the "Women, Peace and Security" Agenda, and the Convention on the Prevention and Combating of Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence are most responsible for the current presence and increasingly advanced position of women in the security sector, while simultaneously strengthening the position of women in the private sphere through the emancipation of gender roles.
