Summary/Abstract: Long after the fall of the Soviet Union, Russia was believed to want to (p)remain a part of the international political and economic order in its full capacity. This implied a long-term process of trade liberalization and active political cooperation with the West, respect for neighbors' borders, as well as participation in international multilateral forums. The fact that Russia's trade volume (exports plus imports) with developed countries has doubled in the last nine years and that Russia was admitted to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2012 shows that this approach of Russia was not just a wish of liberals and Western officials. For many years, this country went through the process of integration into the world political and economic order led by the United States of America and the European Union.
