Summary/Abstract: Results of research on local communities (LCs) in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) presented in this policy brief indicate that their participation in various local issues is of direct importance to community needs. The research also points to a variety of possible roles that LCs could undertake depending on community needs. However, most LCs in BiH have been left de facto without tasks, capacities and resources, with their role reduced to representative bodies without the institutional memory necessary for continuity of their work. This policy brief features a number of recommendations for the improvement of the institutional development of LCs, as well as their various functions.
