Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to theoretically discuss and systematize the phenomenon of hiding places at Ukrainian homes and cultural practices accompanying them shaped in the Soviet times. The history and transformations of hiding places can be traced in the local jokes, anecdotes and stories. The author, on the basis of short interviews, tries to capture the cultural specificity of the hiding places and demonstrate how they impact on the Ukrainian flats, which become the space adapted, remodelled or even designed in advance to keep money at home. The study covers the age groups who have various approaches to the idea of hiding places and their role in the flat.
