Summary/Abstract: According to UN statistics, by 2050 more than two-thirds of global population will live in cities. The increased urbanization ratio will cause different problems and pose new challenges as well. In order to solve these problems, an urban transformation is needed. One of the possible solutions is oriented towards application of modern ICT in the city‟s wide infrastructure. The aim of this paper is to present the smart city concept and, based on analysis of best practices and case studies of different European cities (incl. cities awarded in the initiative “European Capital of Smart Tourism”), to present the key aspects of implementing such a paradigm in the sector of tourism.
