Summary/Abstract: This article reviews the source of the recent global financial crisis which began in September 2008, it discusses the reasons and implications of the crisis for the European Union in particular. Author highlights the debt crisis across number of EU and Euro area member states and discusses empirical data to measure and analyse the consequences of the crisis on those countries. The lack of fiscal discipline and disparities in the economic development contributed to the financial crisis contagion among the EU, author concludes.
