Summary/Abstract: The theory of business management is changing rapidly, thus emerging concepts and paradigms are constantly being introduced and applied to organizational life. Knowledge management (KM) itself is not a new concept, but rather a newly structured one. The aim of this paper is to analyse its evolution and to investigate knowledge management‘s role as a managerial tool in organizations. The focus of this paper is on a systematic review of literature on knowledge management and emphasis is placed on the correlation between knowledge management strategy, information technology and the use of relevant tools and techniques to improve business performance. Attention is brought to emerging trends and new developments, such as a stronger focus on creating and integrating state of the art software solutions.
