Summary/Abstract: This article reviews the traditional and the modern factors which shape the role of the modern mother. The role of the mother is extremely complex, shaped both by individual, micro-social, and macro-social factors. The implementation of the role of the mother is conditioned by the relationship with the microstructural world and the favourable attitude of the macrostructural world. The factors which influence the woman’s attitude towards motherhood and which are becoming more and more important are: knowledge about the role of the mother, mental attitude, willingness to undertake hardships, and calculation of gains and losses. The review shows that despite many studies on the role of the mother, there are still large areas of ignorance about the specific roles of mothers carried out under specific conditions, in unusual family structures and atypical place and time.
