Summary/Abstract: The starting point of the reflections of the author of the text entitled “Franz Fühmann – a lost creator?” is a testament of Fühmann; in which the gravely ill creator admits that he had failed as both a human being and writer. By means of an analysis and interpretation of the writings by Franz Fühmann ‒ starting from a selected prose; letters; autobiographical statements and concentrating on the essays focusing on the problems related to the author/ creator and creativity; citing the statements of his student Uwe Kolbe ‒ the author crafts a portrait of an artistic human being; who sought the truth and was devoted to the literature.
