Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to analyze and interpret Love by Ignacy Karpowicz, especially in terms of the Barthesian pleasures of the text. Karpowicz likes to test the sensitivity and patience of readers by checking how far he can go in his literary trickery. He is intrigued by the simultaneous hinting at and confusing of intertextual tropes, allowing him to construct tales at the “metaˮ level, which are clever and even “twistedˮ (both in thematic and poetological terms). The stories under this title are linked by the theme of homosexuality. Karpowicz, again, focuses on the impossible love, trying not so much to recount one of the many romance stories, but rather, capture the ontology of the feeling. Consequently, we can observe a quite risky recourse to sentimental rhetoric, but essentially, we are offered an account of a difficult personal struggle.
