Summary/Abstract: This article focuses on the pleasure of profiling in crime novels by Katarzyna Bonda. First, attention is drawn to crime stories authored by women, as well as to types of protagonists in contemporary crime prose and their psychologies. Next, the article discusses the pleasure of reading this type of literature and explains what the profiler’s work involves. It offers a thorough analysis of the four parts of the tetralogy Four elements by Sasza Załuska. It describes the private and professional life of the main heroine and creates a psychological profile of Załuska herself. Among other things, the problem of Sasza’s alcoholism was raised, her struggle with the chauvinistic remarks in the masculinized police environment, and her taking pleasure in working as a profiler. The article argues that for Sasza, profiling has become a form of escape from the demons of the past, the key to understanding not only other people, but herself above all, and to finding her own identity. Work is also a substitute for alcohol.
