Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to address a question who Aleksander Tyszyński – the lecturer of the history of Polish literature – was for the generation of Szkoła Główna (The Main School). His multidirectional impact on the generation of young Positivists, and especially on Piotr Chmielowski, cannot be overlooked. The article discusses the contributions of Post-Romantic threads to the formation of the young generation of Positivists. Tyszyński’s views did not fit within the grid of coordinates of the literature controversy of that time, but they cannot be described as anachronistic. Paradoxically, they announced the twilight of Polish Positivism – just at its inception, during a lecture at the Warsaw Main School.
