Summary/Abstract: The article presents the political anthropology of Georges Balandier, paying special attention to the development of his interests and theoretical proposals. At the heart of his research is the reaction of power to change, which he considered a barometer of subsequent political forms and structures. The author points out the relationship in Balandier’s work between political thought and religion as well as the entanglement of tradition with modernity.
