Summary/Abstract: The paper presents arguments for the thesis that Africa has proven to be a research areaparticularly inspiring for the creation of new methodologies in social and culturalanthropology. Ethnographic research conducted on this continent, especially regardingissues of politics and power, has stimulated researchers to improve existing and seek fornew descriptive and analytical tools: from functional-structural approaches, throughprocessual ones connected to the Manchester School, related to symbolic anthropology(Cohen, Kertzer), to postcolonial studies of Achille Mbembe and the findings of LilaAbu-Lughod related to globalization.
