Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes forest policy in Bulgaria in the context of the European requirements for environmental protection and the concept of sustainable development. The purpose of the study is to show the role of sustainable forest management as an element of the forestry development strategy. Major changes in forest legislation are considered as a major instrument for forest policy and a comparative analysis of forest development models is presented.
