Summary/Abstract: This essay deals with poetic representations of death in the Hispanic-American modernist poetry. Firstly, it introduces basic characteristics of the poetics of the above mentioned esthetic movement and then it focuses on the analysis of some of the poems of the modernist poets coming from various Hispanic-American countries. It attempts to find the divergent and convergent points regarding the treatment of the theme – these points range from an optimistic vision of beauty to the pessimism of the “fin de siècle”, and also submit a humoristic vision of the theme.
