Summary/Abstract: Geriatrics is a field of medicine dealing with all aspects of human aging andclinical problems of older age. The aging process itself is a physiological phenomenon,a long-lasting and irreversible one, occurring in the individual developmentof living organisms, including humans. Normal, physiological agingis a mild process and consists of a steady, slow decline in functional reservesof organs and systems, which makes it difficult to maintain homeostasis. Asa result, in a situation when a damaging or pathogenic factor affects an elderlyperson, it is easier for the disease process to develop. Currently, one of themost important challenges in geriatrics is not so much extending the maximumduration of human life as preventing adverse, pathological aging. To maintaingood health until the later years of life, prevention of illness and promotinga healthy lifestyle are most important.
