Summary/Abstract: A combination of aramid, polyvinyl alcohol and nanoparticles of Si3N4, combined in a single composite system for individual ballistic protection is presented. Physico-mechanical and ballistic tests confirm that balistic resistance increases with increasing content of polyvinyl alcohol together with nanoparticles of silicon nitride in the system thus created. Scanning electron microscopy shows a relatively uniform distribution of Si3N4 particles on the surface of the aramid before and after the ballistic studies.
