Summary/Abstract: The conquest of Monte Cassino is one of the most extraordinary military achievements in the history of Poland. The victory cost the Polish soldiers of the general Anders almost a thousand dead and more than three thousand injured. After Monte Cassino, the soldiers of Władysław Anders fought heroically in Abruzzo, Marche and Emilia-Romagna. The most important military achievement was the liberation of Ancona.When the Polish II Corps was dissolved, its soldiers moved first to London, then to variousdestinations around the world. About three thousand young Polish soldiers engaged to Italianwomen and enrolled in various universities in Italy, founding the Polish community in Italy.
