Summary/Abstract: Undoubtedly, social media and social networks are powerful in today’s culture. They have become mainstream communication tools for users worldwide. In Poland, the proportion of active social media users on such platforms as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and other Web 2.0 technologies continues to accelerate on its upward trajectory. The demographic characteristics of Polish social networks users show that that usage is highest among the 19-24 year old age group. Assuming that users approach social media with a meaningful and conscious mindset and engage socially to interact as well as for the purpose of seeking and sharing information, or in other words learning and researching, we may hypothesize that social media can be utilised as platforms for teaching Languages for Specific Purposes (LSP). Are social media an appropriate tool for teaching a highly specialised language? Is Facebook, the most popular social platform, the right channel to provide valuable educational content? The aim of the paper is to research educational possibilities of social media by using selected social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, blog) to teach English for Medical Purposes (EMP).
