Summary/Abstract: The body nudity in the traditional culture is something absolutely unacceptable for the Bulgarians. However, it has mythological (symbolic) meaning. It is associated with unutilized wild-life, disorder and chaos. Naked man becomes a non-person, receives unexplained power, becomes a mediator between the real and the imaginary world of evil forces. Naked man comes into contact with them, acquires skills to fight and to win. The garment is a cultural achievement, which protects. Nudi-ty is used in magic and for healing of diseases, it serves as punishment and purification. It is an ele-ment of pagan and Christian rituals.
