Summary/Abstract: This study starts from the question of whether and in what sense a form of social ethics can be identified in the theology of Saint Priest Confessor Stăniloae. Starting from the modern difficulties of Orthodox theological language and the relationship between dogma, doxology, and orthopraxy, the analysis focuses on three periods in the saint’s life: interwar journalism, where his theological discourse is vulnerable to contamination by the nationalist and purifying imagery of the era; the communist period, in which the Philokalia, Palamite theology, Christian personalism, communion, creation, and God’s love become the premises of his ethics of patience and inner resilience; and the post-communist era, when freedom requires moral discernment, not merely institutional change. Without transforming Stăniloae’s work into an absent treatise on social ethics, our study aims to read it as an internal grammar of responsibility: the person against massification, communion against collectivism, love against fear, creation as a gift against the reduction of the world to a resource, and freedom as truth against freedom as mere liberation.
