Summary/Abstract: This study aims to address the following exegetical challenge: although Saint Dumitru Stăniloae’s ascetic-mystical synthesis, Orthodox Spirituality (1981), was published at a significant distance after the liturgical turn (1969) and the spiritual stage (1974–1979) of his Eucharistic theology, the Eucharist plays no role in the presentations, analyses, and systematization found in Orthodox Spirituality. This paper examines the place and role of the divine Eucharist in Orthodox Spirituality and proposes a series of hypotheses that may explain the absence of the Eucharist’s integration into the theological discourse within the synthesis of asceticism and mysticism.
