Summary/Abstract: In my study, I provide a broad overview of sociolinguistic research on language use in Transcarpathia, focusing primarily on the studies in which I have both participated and played a leading role over the past quarter-century. Basic sociolinguistic research began in the region in the early 2000s and focused on examining the speech patterns of the Hungarian-dominant community in Transcarpathia and the multilingual phenomena occurring within it. I examine the domains of spoken language and digital communication, where linguistic and cultural contact manifests itself in communication in creative and often multimodal (memes) forms.
