Summary/Abstract: Music as an art form is closely connected to radio as a medium. The concept of media music, music performed and delivered to consumers through an intermediary, a technical means of mass distribution, is a starting point for studying music on the radio. Radio revolutionized music – it was the first independent cultural sphere that merged into the new media at the beginning of the 20th century. Music became unthinkable without radio stations, and the phenomenon of „radio music“ appeared. The text examines the musical work in its essence, main characteristics, copyright, and related rights in use. Music occupies a major role and place in radio content, due to its speci¿city as an electronic medium. It is especially powerful in radio programs which rely primarily on it as a main component of the program. The legitimate use of musical works on the radio occurs through licensing of music. For each di൵erent type of use of the musical work, payment for the creative work of the authors, performers and producers is due. In the digital environment, this is no exception, but the settlement of copyright and related rights for music in radio is complicated by the multiplication of opportunities for using music outside the linearity of the radio program – streaming, webcasting, simulcasting, podcasting. The philosophy of accountability for use and the criteria for payment are di൵erent – usually based on the number of simultaneous connections or the number of subscribers, with the tari൵s of the collective rights management organizations in our country, MUSICAUTOR and PROFON, being adopted for compensation.
