Summary/Abstract: This piece of experimental writing3 illustrates the collapsing time and space between the stories of memory and loss among the survivors of the genocides against the Tutsi in Rwanda and Bosniaks in the former Yugoslavia. It provocatively comments on the destruction of cultural symbolism at the heart of those debates about the work of memory after genocide. Indeed, it problematizes the work of memory in post-genocide peacebuilding. Ultimately, it is a piece of experimental writing that pays attention to the resolve and resilience of survivors of genocide. This resilience may take different shapes in different situations, but it is observable across the cases.
