Summary/Abstract: The Srebrenica massacre is referred to as the ‘Srebrenica genocide’, in light of the fact that it is the only atrocity of the 1990s war in Bosnia-Hercegovina that has unambiguously been ruled to have been genocide by the international courts. In fact, the Srebrenica massacre was not a standalone or local genocide, but the culminating genocidal act of a genocide that had begun in 1992. The form that the Srebrenica massacre took is only comprehensible in relation to the events of the previous three years, not only in the Srebrenica region but across Bosnia-Hercegovina.
