Summary/Abstract: The paper represents an initial step towards a conceptual study of the creative industries, examined in the context of sustainable development, European non-financial reporting policies, corporate governance, leadership and control. The study aims to contribute to a better understanding and delineation of the role of the sector as an economic and social engine, promoting innovation, social cohesion within the sustainable framework of the European Union. By reviewing academic literature, European policy documents and media publications, the analysis explores the potential of the sector to support public policies and business practices aimed at sustainable growth. The Bulgarian context is structured through data from the National Statistical Institute and other key institutional assessments, identifying the lack of a unified national definition and the fragmentation of statistical data. In this regard, the article attempts to fill this gap by offering a basis for further research and analytical applications through the synthesis of a brief conceptual map of sub-sectors and economic activities in Bulgaria that could be included in analyses of the creative industries in line with international practices.
