Summary/Abstract: In 2025, financial institutions are operating in an increasingly complex fraud landscape shaped by technological innovation, regulatory scrutiny, intervention and evolving criminal behavior. Emerging trends such as synthetic identity fraud and AI-driven deception, cyber-enabled scams, and are redefining both the scale and the sophistication of financial crime. While traditional fraud typologies—such as internal embezzlement, bribery, and asset misappropriation—remain persistent, their digital transformation has accelerated the need of the update of the conventional control mechanisms.This paper explores the fraud developments and control suggestions impacting financial institutions in 2025 It also outlines some of the intervention made by regulators in order to protect the customers such as the one in Singapore.
