Summary/Abstract: Intercultural education between theory and practice: Perspectives on school inclusion in contemporary societyIntercultural education has become a vital component of contemporary schooling, as global mobility, demographic shifts and socio-economic transformations reshape educational environments. This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the theoretical foundations of intercultural education, emphasizing critical pedagogy, social constructivism and cultural capital theory as essential frameworks for understanding how cultural interaction shapes learning. The study explores the impact of these conceptual perspectives on teaching practices, educational policies and school culture. It also examines the challenges faced by Romanian schools, including teacher training gaps, persistent stereotypes, the reintegration difficulties of returning migrant students and the lack of institutional resources. At the same time, the article highlights the opportunities emerging from digital innovation, community partnerships and global citizenship education. The conclusions argue for a systemic reform inwhich interculturality becomes a central organizing principle of democratic schooling, enabling diversity to serve as an educational and social asset.
