Summary/Abstract: The present article explores the concept of emotional self-regulation and its crucial importance in the holistic development of adolescents within the current educational context. Starting from the psycho-pedagogical definitions of self-regulation – seen as a set of processes through which an individual monitors, evaluates, and modifies their emotional reactions – the text highlights the essential nature of this competence for socio-emotional adaptation and maintaining inner balance. The article analyzes the model of emotional intelligence proposed by Mayer and Salovey, popularized by Goleman, emphasizing its key components: self-awareness, emotional control, motivation, and empathy. National and international research, including PISA 2018 and Romanian studies, are cited to demonstrate the direct correlation between a high level of emotional intelligence and improved academic performance, reduced risky behaviors, and lower stress. The article emphasizes the central role of teachers and a democratic school environment in supporting emotional development, concluding that the integration of socio-emotional education into the curriculum is a fundamental necessity of modern education, essential for forming solid characters and for the personal and professional success of young people.
