Summary/Abstract: The article presents the comparative analysis of the official and vernacular names of medicinal plants in the English, Romanian and Latin languages, simultaneously focusing on the mechanisms of their etymology as well as the criteria, which conditioned their origin and evolution. The features, both specific and typical of the mentality of the nations are being highlighted while analyzing the names of phytotherapeutic plants.
