Summary/Abstract: Economic arguments have a crucial role in the (de)legitimation of the green transitions. This article examines the economic debate on the European Green Transition in two Bulgarian online-based media outlets. The discourse analysis identifies sixteen economic story-lines. Nine of them are embedded within a strongly delegitimizing discourse that portrays the transition as a bureaucratized process leading to economic decline. Seven are organized around a discourse of inevitable economic transformation, which presents the transition not as a threat to the economy but as an opportunity for its modernization, emphasizing the benefits of renewable energy sources over the limitations of a fossil fuel-based economy. The study contributes by revealing the fundamental arguments underpinning the (de)legitimation of the green transition, as well as the logic of their unfolding.
