Summary/Abstract: This article explores how economic growth in Bulgaria has become decoupled from environmental pressures, with particular focus on the long-term transition to carbon neutrality. The approach builds on definitions and methodological guidelines from the OECD, the European Commission, and recent academic studies. The analysis draws on official data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI) and Eurostat, making it possible to track and compare Bulgaria’s development over time. The results indicate encouraging trends: both relative and absolute forms of decoupling are observed across different sectors, although structural barriers remain. Based on these findings, the article outlines conclusions about the capacity of the Bulgarian economy to move toward the European Union’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.
