Modern aspects of regional policy in the context of development of small settlements

Summary/Abstract: Small settlements in Bulgaria remain in the shadow of national and international mechanisms for smoothing regional disparities. In Bulgaria, regional policy is mainly focused on regional and municipal centers, while the problematic peripheral urbanized areas around them remain undervalued. This leads to an accumulation of complex problems and challenges that leave behind significant socio-economic consequences. The purpose of the report is to present a collective survey aimed at identifying the problems of small settlements in the Stara Zagora district and, on this basis, to derive some views on optimizing the instruments of regional policy in Bulgaria.
