Summary/Abstract: The report presents some of the main problems faced by different generations in Bulgarian society when managing their personal finances. It examines why older generations in Bulgaria save by accumulating deposits in banks and are skeptical of the “new”, including investments and taking on various types of risk. Some of the characteristic features of Bulgarian folk psychology, built from the recent and distant past, related to money, are analyzed. The object of the study are the different generations in Bulgaria – and more specifically, generation X, the baby boomer generation, the „silent generation“ and generation Z, and the subject – household savings, as part of managing their personal finances. The of Bulgarians, as well as results of various studies. The main conclusion from the study is that in their behavior, people over 45 in Bulgaria save en masse in deposits, and have very little difficulty opening up to the „new“, including taking risks and investing in different types of investments, while the younger generation-Z is inclined to take more risks and is „open“ to new things.
