Summary/Abstract: Gender stereotypes are a common phenomenon in various spheres of social life. They influence the inclusion of individuals in social groups. Gender stereotypes are also present in gaming communities, which are traditionally male dominated, and may lead to intergroup exclusion and prejudice against female gamers. The present study applies the Stereotype Content Model (SCM) to analyse stereotypes and their impact on perceptions of male and female gamers. A survey was conducted among gamers, and the data were analysed using the SCM framework and statistical methods to test the hypotheses. The results indicate that female gamers are evaluated highly on the warmth dimension but low on the competence dimension, whereas male gamers are evaluated in the opposite manner. The study highlights the significance of gender stereotypes in online gaming communities and their influence on social identity.
