Summary/Abstract: From a lecturer’s perspective as a teacher at the Department of Russian and Slavic Philology within the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Bucharest, this paper examines the current state of studying Serbian as a foreign language in the Romanian environment. Serbian Language teaching started in Bucharest in 1949. During the past 76 years, The Department of Serbian Language and Literature has undergone successful periods in its development and there is still a solid interest for it. Based on the unique characteristics of unrelated languages such as Serbian and Romanian, we have identified several real-life challenges faced by students of different age groups and levels. These challenges have emerged through our many years of teaching experience. In a competitive market, the Department of Serbian Language and Literature tries to respond to the challenges of the times and to the demands of this "capricious market" by fulfilling the needs of the students who are studying Serbian. Steady progress is impossible, mainly because we are facing historical reversals and adaptations to corporate interests. Due to the digital paradigm of methods and tools that imply the use of digital technologies, numerous adjustments in the teaching of Serbian language have been introduced in the Romanian environment.
