Summary/Abstract: The theological scholar in the Serbian Orthodox Church has played an important role in the history of this cult. The professional training of priests was particularly important forthe episcopal chairs, especially in the context of the struggle for preserving faith and nationalidentity. In a multi-religious and multiethnic region, Bishop of Timisoara Petar Petrovicichose in 1800 two outstanding people of society to take care of the professional training ofthe Romanian and Serbian Orthodox priests. This approach also had an ecumenical content, through the presence of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Timisoara as of the canon of theRoman Catholic bishopric at the festive course. Although this course did not work after thedeath of Bishop Petrovici, it is important to note that it was the first step of the Episcopateof Timisoara for the professional training of Orthodox priests in Banat.
