Summary/Abstract: This paper explores how Abba Isaac of Nineveh derives his understanding of spiritual life from the work of redemption offered by God for the sake of humanity and its salvation. It focuses on the way in which he, as a 7th century ascetic, approaches the role of the human person in responding to the divine call and in realizing in his or her own life the mystery of salvation. The paper also observes the systematic theological infrastructure of the spiritual teaching of Saint Isaac who has been regarded by many prominent scholars as a non-systematic writer.
