Summary/Abstract: The present study analyses the insights given by Rev. Professor Dumitru Stăniloae to one of the fundamental teachings of Orthodox Spirituality: patience in tribulation with hope in Godʹs help and reward. Starting from delimitations and terminological nuances between “temptation” and “trial”, “The Saint of Books” emphasises the teachings of Philokalic Fathers on the causes and profound spiritual purposeof “involuntary sufferings”, as well as the attitude of assuming them and bearing them with humility, patience and hope, towards salvation.
