Summary/Abstract: This study offers a new theoretical perspective for analyzing the transformations within the genre system of Bulgarian media. The first part discusses external (local and global) factors of social, cultural, and technological nature that influence the contemporary media genre system. The second part shifts the focus to internal-system transformations through the application of two relatively new concepts – genre hybridity and genre colonization – which have not yet been used in the Bulgarian scholarly context. In light of current research on the disrupted balance between nomination, interpretation, and narrative in contemporary media texts, the study explores the discursive nature of the genre system as an analytical problem. The methodological approach includes historical-contextual analysis, theoretical analysis, and elements of critical discourse analysis. The study does not aim to provide an exhaustive empirical investigation but to formulate an applicable conceptual framework for future qualitative research on media genre transformations.
