Summary/Abstract: The use of intelligent systems to automate media operations has long been practiced. The potential and dangers of generative artificial intelligence have been the subject of discussions since its recent release. Concerns have been raised by experts about the possibility that the increasing quantity of artificial intelligence (AI)- generated content could lead to a situation known as the “liar's dividend, in which factual information is associated with conspiracy theories. International studies have sought a 'vaccine' to save the quality of information, but academics have identified two major obstacles: the digital divide among journalists and the monopoly of technology and media giants. This study focuses on media professionals in Bulgaria's skills to recognize and counteract synthetic misinformation, as well as the extent to which language barriers and the lack of multilingualism of AI-driven detectors pose a prerequisite for deepening digital inequality in non-English speaking countries.
